Llantarnam Ponds, Cwmbran. (3 ponds - Kingfisher and Dragonfly ponds approx one acre each. Top pond approx two thirds of an acre).
Originally built as a flood defense system
during the construction of Llantarnam Park Ind. Est,the fishing rights
being obtained,on annual lease,from the then Cwmbran Development Corporation. Stocked over many years Dragonfly Pond has Crucian Carp, Roach, Rudd,
Bream, Perch,Tench,Skimmer Bream, Roach / Bream hybrids, Brown Goldfish, Common Carp, Mirror Carp and Koi Carp. A natural
stock of Minnow and the occasional Trout come via the Dowlais
Brook(feeder stream). The odd Goldfish and exotic Carp species
present, are as a result of unlawful dumping by the public. Kingfisher pond contains all the specie's that Dragonfly has, with the addition of Barbel, Chub and Ghost carp. There is also a
small natural stock of Eel.The freehold of the ponds was purchased in
2012/13 and is now in private ownership by the association.
There is an on-going project regarding
landscaping, tree management, access, platforms for disabled and able
bodied anglers, animal and bird welfare etc. It is a concession that the
feeding of waterfowl and exercising animals by members of the public
will continue, providing that no litter or animal mess is left anywhere
on the fishery. Anglers are also reminded that it is an offense to leave
litter and bait, use metal or glass containers, carry any weapon or
cutting tool(other than used to trim tackle), leave plastic bags, hooks,
line or any angling debris on the fishery. IF you can't find a rubbish
bin TAKE IT HOME WITH YOU. This fishery is
for MEMBERS ONLY, NO DAY TICKET HOLDERS. Permitted hours on all
fisheries is Dawn to Dusk i.e. one hour before daylight to one hour
after evening light. There is NO NIGHT FISHING, camping or fires on any
of the fisheries.
NB. THESE PONDS ARE FOR MEMBERS ONLY. NO DAY TICKETS. ( You must carry your permit with you - or you could be asked to leave )
ALSO - IF YOU ARE 12 YEARS OR OLDER ,YOU MUST OWN A NATIONAL ROD LICENCE. ( EASILY OBTAINABLE FROM ANY POST OFFICE ).
